Our February 22 Wednesday Evening guest speaker is Anne Namba, Owner of Anne Namba Designs from 6 PM to 7:30 PM in Kieffer Hall Room 9.
Ms. Namba was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii but spent much of her youth in Bangkok, Thailand and Tehran, Iran. After finishing her studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, she graduated Cum Laude from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She worked on the costume department at Radio City Music Hall.
She later returned to her native Hawaii and worked for Malahini Hawaii, one of Hawaii's largest garment manufacturers for a few years. She then worked on designing her own line of one-off-a-kind garments made from vintage Japanese kimono and obis. In 1989, she finally opened her own Honolulu boutique – Anne Namba Designs.
Anne's collections have appeared in Bergdorf-Goodman in New York, Neiman Marcus, Macy's West and Nordstrom to name a few. Also, her pieces have been worn by Phylicia Rashad, Aretha Franklin and Vanna White.
